Forget everything you have ever heard about the Maldives,  Gan is completely different. With its 5 km length and 3 km width it is the largest island in the Addu Atoll which is situated at the very southern end of the Maldives, even south of the Equator. Gan can be reached from Malé in an unforgettable 90 minutes flight over the atolls and islands.

Landing on Gan will give you a real surprise: An extraordinary vegetation expects you there: palm trees, bushes, flowers, lush green fields.

But that is not all to surprise the visitor who gets there. Next to Gan are four other islands of about the same size, and all are interconnected by bridges. On these islands approximately 25.000 Maldivians are making their livelihood out of fishery and agriculture.

Gan was a British Navy and Air force base from 1912 till 1974. For this reason the island is very well developed and equipped. Many roads and paths are there and can be used for biking and hiking. There is even an 18 hole golf course on Gan which is, however, for the time being not in use. It is of course easily possible to visit the various islands by walking or even better by bicycle. The people are very friendly and most of them also speak English. There are many beautiful spots on each of the islands where one can take a swim or discover the beautiful fishes of the sea by snorkeling. As a special surprise there is even a lake on one of the islands, where from October to March many birds that are residing here can be seen.

Equator Village - A new resort with a very good standard of accommodation for those who are looking for idly lazing as well as keeping active.

Location: On the island of Gan, 450 km south of Malé in the very south of the Addu Atoll and south of the Equator.

What is the resort offering: White beaches about 300 m from the hotel and crystal clear waters, a large garden with a profusion of flowers, bushes and shady trees. The house reef is situated 25 m in front of the hotel, ideal for diving and snorkelling.
